CAPITAL WITH LIONS

Archaeological Museum "San Lorenzo"

The public space

II secolo a.C.

Sculpture

Several architectonic elements in stone found along the Northern limit of the Roman town, make us think about the hypothesis of the existence, in that area, of a monumental public building.

An example of those remains is the big capital in marble, with a double crown of acanthus leaves and a couple of lions in the four corners in the Palace of Rodolfo Casagrande. The capital, at that time, was vertically divided in two parts and used to decorate the facade of the palace. Only in the 19th century, it was removed and given to the Town Museum.
