Fragment

With a part of the found fragments, it was re-constructed one of the nymphaeum’s niches.

The nymphaeum was a luxury piece of garden furniture, extremely popular in the houses of the rich people from the 1 century b.C. to the 1st century a.C.

It is an impressive architectonic background, generally with a fountain which, often, hosted some statues.

The structure found in Cremona was decorated with an extremely colorful mosaic, with stones, shells, pieces of colorful glass and of a particular pigment called Egyptian blue.

The decorations evoke the garden’s atmosphere and the theme of water. Together with some geometrical elements, there are some ivy’s branches, wreaths of leaves and fruits and a big shell’s valve.

The natural environment is enriched by the “fake cave” decoration of part of the structure.
