Date
On Friday, on the 19th of December, at 5:00 p.m., there will be a presentation of the restoration of Pietro Martire Neri's work, The Healing of the Man Born Blind.
The event will be held in the Sala delle Colonne of the Museum and it will be an opportunity to give the public a renewed look at this important painting.
This restoration offers the opportunity to bring critical attention back to other paintings in our art gallery that have been attributed to Pietro Martire Neri, including the recently restored Flight into Egypt.
These artworks have been joined by other paintings that help us to better understand the surprising profile and discussions surrounding the restoration of the catalog of a painter who, born in Cremona in 1591, continued his training in the city in the early 17th century, moving along a path that winds through the influences of Venice and Domenico Fetti, at the time at the court of the Gonzagas in Mantua, towards the complex and varied influences of post-Caravaggio and Baroque Rome, where he was appointed prince of the Academy of San Luca in 1654 and where he died in 1661.
This small but significant exhibition offers an opportunity to refocus attention on an artist of undoubted importance, to reflect on the reconstruction of his surprising stylistic and technical journey, and to appreciate the beauty of the works on display.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until the 8th of March, 2026.
The catalog is on sale at the ticket office for €15.
