Museo Civico "Ala Ponzone"
Date
The Ala Ponzone Civic Museum is hosting an extraordinary exhibition dedicated to Rembrandt and Dutch painters, which is based on an important exchange of works.
Rembrandt's painting ‘Portrait of a Man in Oriental Costume’, from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, was loaned in exchange for our ‘Ortolano’ by Giuseppe Arcimboldi, providing an opportunity to showcase Dutch painting in Cremona.
This character head is not a portrait, but an invented subject characterised by the representation of the face and of the clothes.
This beautiful painting, which perfectly represents 17th-century Dutch painting and the extraordinary lessons of the master from Leiden, is the focus of this exhibition of around forty works, some of which have been restored for this occasion. The works come from a large collection of paintings preserved in our museum, mainly in the Giuseppe Sigismondo Ala Ponzone Legacy and in other private collections from which they have been generously loaned.
From sacred themes to genre subjects, from portraits to still lifes, from landscapes to views, a significant picture of the relationship between Dutch painting and the Cremona context emerges through an in-depth study of the paintings on display.
Admission to the exhibition is included in the museum ticket price.
The catalogue will be on sale at the ticket office at a discounted price of €30 instead of €38 (cover price).
