St Giacinto’s miracle

Museo Civico "Ala Ponzone"

St. Domenico room

Giovanni Battista Trotti (16/1619)

Malosso

Painting

The painting represented the altarpiece of the altar dedicated to the Saints Fabiano and Sebastiano in St. Domenico Church. The attention, in that period, was focused on the future Dominican Saint who was declared a saint in 1594 by the Pope Clemente VIII. This would be the reason of the depiction of the miracle made by the Dominican to resuscitate a boy drown in a river, here placed in the lower right corner. The composition is characterized by the gathering of several people around Giacinto and it is influenced by the new painting style developing in Bologna in that period. The main level of the composition is the first one. It can totally catch the observer’s attention.
