Town Museum "Ala Ponzone"

Diotti and first 19th century room

Giuseppe Diotti

1809

Painting

This painting testifies the first phase of the painter’s artistic life.

It is the oil version of the drawing made in Rome for Academy's exam of the second year.

With this oil painting Diotti expresses the main characteristics of his style like the ethical and formal severity of Jacques – Louis David and the similarity to Nicolas Poussin and, in general, to the 18th century classicism.

This painting was then translated by the cabinet-maker Giovanni Maffezzoli in one of his famous decorated artworks which are now displayed in the Platina room.
