Room of the 16th Century

Vincenzo Campi (1536 –1591)

16th century

Painting

This artwork represents in the best way the attention paid by the youngest member of the Campi family to the realistic painting. In this picture are described the details of the daily activities in the country-side. This painting represents the move of the seasonal workers from a farm to another one because of their contract’s expiration. This habit, connected to the celebrations of San Martino on the 11th of November, started to be part of the traditions of the Po valley in the last century. However, it is a rare iconographic element which is generally not proposed in any other artworks of the 16th Century, neither in Italy nor abroad.
